About Us

The Schriever Volunteer Fire Department was started in September 1955 following a fire at the home of Herman LeBoeuf. Mr. LeBoeuf's house was damaged because the train was blocking the road, preventing Thibodaux Fire Department from getting to the fire quickly. Back then, there was no overpass.

Members of the community came together after the fire to form the Schriever Fire Department. Those individuals included; Rev. Joseph Bentz, Iven Bergeron, Herman LeBoeuf, Jr., Nick Adams, Warren Clausen, Edwin Sonier, Charles Duet, Sr., Jules LeBoeuf, Summers Picou, Pete Clausen, Robert Use, Charles Duet, Jr., Claude Boudreaux, Charley Brown, Leon Prejean, Avie Talbot, Lester Bourgeois, Elden Pellegrin, Carlos Morreau, L.S. (Capt.) Bourgeois, Tom Dunbar, Gilbert Bourg, Logan Boudreaux, Herman Hebert, and Albert Gonzales.

The first fire truck was a 1931 American LaFrance Pumper that was bought from Thibodaux Fire Department in the amount of $1.00.

At the present time, the department covers about 48 square miles, including the towns of Schriever, Gray, and Little Bayou Black. We operate three stations, five pumpers, one pumper/ladder, one rescue/salvage, and one special rescue, with about 45 active members.
